Programs

Currently the Department of Physics offers Undergraduate and post-graduate courses leading to B.S., M.S/M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. The B.S. course is a four years degree program based on taught courses and laboratory work. A student studying M.Phil./Ph.D. has to complete the requisite number of credit hours for course work as laid down in Higher Education Commission regulations for the said degrees. A thesis based on original research work will also be submitted and defended. The duration of these degrees depends on the performance of the student and on the nature of research problem. However the minimum time limit for M.Phil. is two years and three years for Ph.D.Approved HEC Supervisor

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE SEATS

Admission shall be allowed to applicants who belongs to this province, being local or domicile citizens. There are 50 seats reserved for local/domicile students of Balochistan Province. The distribution of seats is as under.

In addition to that 10 seats are also available for dependents of university employees and children of persons working in various departments of Federal Government. There are reserved seats for students of Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) and nominations are made by the respective Federal Ministry.  

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR M.Sc.

The applications for admission in M.Sc. are invited within two weeks after declaration of B.Sc. result by University of Balochistan, Quetta. The applicant seeking admission in M.Sc. program must have

  • Passed  B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics.

  • Passed the B.Sc. at most two years prior to the year of admission. A relaxation can be considered if seats are left vacant.

  • Not passed the B.Sc. in the supplementary examination of same  year as  admission year.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR B.S.


The applications for admission in B.S. are invited within two weeks after declaration of F.Sc. result by University of Balochistan, Quetta. The applicant seeking admission in B.S. program must have
-- FSc Pre-Engineering/A-Level Cambridge (with Physics and Mathematics) / Three year polytechnic degree
-- Passed the F.Sc. at most two years prior to the year of admission. A relaxation can be considered if seats are left vacant.
-- Not passed the F.Sc. in the supplementary examination of same year as admission year.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT FOR M.S./ M.Phil

-- Candidates having minimum sixteen years of education or four years education after F.A. /F.Sc. (with minimum 130 credit hours) in the Physics/ Electrical engineering/Electronics engineering/ Mechanical Engineering from HEC recognized institutions are eligible for admission in M.Phil/MS in Physics.
-- Candidates with a foreign degree equivalent to BS/M.Sc are also eligible for admission in M.Phil/MS.
-- Minimum CGPA of 2.50 on a scale of 4.00 in BS/BE/M.Sc on semester system or 50% marks in M.A. / M.Sc. on Annual System is required for admission to M.Phil/MS.
 

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Each student is required to complete a minimum of seventy-five percent of attendance in theory lectures and practical classes separately for becoming eligible to appear in the examination that year.
