Department of GEOPHYSICS
Introduction
Welcome to the exciting world of the Department of Geophysics. We invite you to explore the diverse and dynamic field of Geophysics, where we unravel the mysteries of our planet through the application of Scientific Principles and Cutting-edge technology. The Department of Geophysics was established in 2016 and inaugurated by federal Minister Mr. Ahsan Iqbal. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) established a separate building block in University of Balochistan for Department of Geophysics. At the Department of Geophysics, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of curiosity, innovation, and collaboration. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to excel in the field of Geophysics and make significant contributions to scientific research, environmental sustainability, and natural resource exploration.
Geophysics encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including Seismology, Gravity Method, Seismic Method, Magnetic Method, Electrical Methods, Electromagnetism, and Remote Sensing, among others. Through our comprehensive curriculum, students will gain a strong foundation in these fundamental areas, while also having the opportunity to delve into specialized topics such as Exploration Geophysics, Environmental Geophysics, and Geophysical Imaging. We offer state-of-the-art laboratories and field equipment, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning experiences. Our faculty consists of esteemed experts and researchers who are actively involved in groundbreaking projects, providing students with invaluable mentorship and opportunities for research collaboration.
Moreover, Balochistan is a province rich in mineral and Energy resources (Oil and Gas). These mineral rich potential zones of the province need to be explored for exploitation of the valuable resources. Major oil and gas production fields are in Balochistan province. The water crises of the province need immediate solution to prevent major portion of the province from drought. Enormous areas of the province are earthquake prone and major earthquakes occurrences are common in the province. The Department of Geophysics is committed to providing supportive and stimulating information and solutions to mitigate the effects of Disastrous Events. We invite you to embark on this exciting journey with us, where you will gain a deep understanding of the Earth's processes, contribute to groundbreaking research, and become a leader in the field of geophysics.
