June 1st & 2nd, 2022 - University of Balochistan, Quetta, Pakistan
Conference Aim
In academia, international conferences play pivotal role in research and
teaching. Such activities help develop the motivation for research and the
learning skills in youth. Furthermore, these activities are also highly
important in making awareness about recent advances in research in a given
domain of science and technology.
Agriculture sector of Pakistan contributes 18.9% to GDP and accounts for
providing employment to 43.3 percent of country's labor (Pakistan Economic
Survey 2017-2018). However, more than 90% of the country has arid to
semi-arid climatic condition. Salinity and drought are important limiting
factors in agriculture. In Balochistan, which is the largest province of
Pakistan, mining activities also contribute in aggravating problems to
agriculture and food quality. Drought, combined with increasing livestock
production, which largely depends on rangelands, are seriously affecting
natural ecosystems through negatively influencing biodiversity. This
conference will help scientists of Balochistan address these serious issues
in future.
Papers are invited in the following topics;
1. Plant physiology, pathology and biotechnology
2. Biodiversity and conservation - problems and solutions
a. Current scenario of dryland ecosystems
b. Livestock grazing management and rangeland ecosystem restoration
c. Ecosystem services of rangelands for agriculture
- natural pest invasion
control
d. Management options for dryland ecosystem restoration while maintaining
sustainable livelihood
3. Medicinal plants of drylands: production, utilization potential and
herbal industry
4. Farming systems of drylands - options and opportunities for better
economy and livestock production
5. Effect of climate change on arid agroecosystems and mitigation options
6. Invasive weeds of dryland agroecosystems - problems and management
options
7. Bio wastes in agriculture: sustainable solution for agriculture, economy
and environment
a. Compost as powerful environmental-friendly fertilizer
b. Co-composted biochar
c. Biochar for reduction of soil toxicity to crops
d. Nano technology for organic fertilizers
e. Effect on soil biota
f. Wastewater irrigation: from negative to positive
8. Mining activities: influences on agriculture in Balochistan and
attenuation options
